Although he does not have a canonical name, the blue bird hanging out near the snowy summit of Hawk Peak is just as real as the rest of A Short Hike’s cast of characters. The delinquent bird with a mohawk (ha) bought the remaining stock of Ranger Jon’s Golden Feathers – which were only 40 Coins at the start of your adventure. Once you’ve purchased the two available at Jon’s outpost, Mohawk (we’re going to call him this from now on) is asking for 100 EACH. That’s a 150% upcharge!

Talk to him enough, however, and you’ll learn that Mohawk has a good reason – even though it’s not cool to price gouge. He’s actually tying to pay for his tuition. And even if you buy all four of his feathers, he’ll still need an additional 400 Coins.
While exploring the island, you’ll find tons of money just sitting around. On rocks, in holes, etc. So if you choose to give him the 400 Coins, Mohawk will be taken aback. Claire will reassure him that she found the money just by looking around the island anyway.

It Feels Good to Do Good
As a bonus for sending a bird to school, Mohawk will give you a wristwatch that he was “I was gonna sell it on the internet or whatever.” Lucky for you, it’s the same wristwatch that a concerned goat is looking for down at the base of the mountain. And in return, the goat will give you a Silver Feather!
Even though it costs 800 Coins to buy all of Mohawk’s feathers and pay for his tuition, it feels good to do good. One interesting aspect of A Short Hike is that Claire often takes on requests without ever asking for anything in return. As a player, you learn this quickly. So your selflessness is rewarded in the end, as there is no other way to get the goat’s wristwatch without helping Mohawk first.
